Working together to realise your full potential

Alex Callard

My development philosophy

I work through a person-centric, systemic approach.

We are not machines - we are thinking and feeling people striving to do the best that we can in a context of continual change.

At the core of my coaching philosphy is this verse from The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva

Right now, you have a good boat, fully equipped and available — hard to find.
To free others and you from the sea of samsara,
Day and night, fully alert and present,
Study, reflect, and meditate — this is the practice of a bodhisattva.

I believe that all individuals already have the capability to achieve their goals and truly do their best work. We often encounter difficulties identifying, articulating and communicating what we want and need to do and this can all too easily catch us in a cycle of dissatisfaction and compromise.

My work with teams is strongly focussed on the bigger, systemic context in which they operate. As with individuals, I believe that all teams have the capacity to become High Value Delivering and this maturity is achieved through exploration and development of the relationships within the team and across the wider organisation. Diversity is a great strength in a successful team - understanding how to harness this diversity of thinking, communication and collaboration is central to my team coaching philosophy.

As a coach, my responsibility is to listen, reflect and guide; to adapt my experiences to your individual context and walk alongside you on your own journey.

What others have said

Alex has helped me to stay goal-oriented while protecting myself from my instincts to overwork. He is able to spin up step-by-step actions to achieve these goals, bringing rationality to situations that can otherwise feel impulse or emotion driven.
Any meeting led by Alex can be expected to be thoroughly planned, with clear objectives laid out at the very start, but with levity and curiosity woven throughout. Alex takes the time to probe any unexpected outcomes or concerning thoughts that may arise, with a clear sense of care and empathy, and always with an open mind. This is something that rubs off on others - I think we can credit the level of openness and camaraderie in our team in great part to Alex.
You've significantly helped in getting team members out of their shells. This has been very positive for me as it frees me up to focus on the next project and it makes my time working with the team more enjoyable due to there being more interaction (I want back-and-forth from the team, that's when the good ideas come out!)
